Into the mind of artist Jesperish

Jesperish is one of those minds we marvel at. Just look at a single piece of art he's created. Keep looking. Zoom in. The distinct style and level of detail in his work inspires awe, a feeling harder and harder to find these days, especially on the internet. We've been following Jesperish for years now, and even collaborated with him on a project, so we were curious to dig deeper into his mind.

What’s the best compliment you received recently?

I recently met someone who said they finally felt understood as a soul through my art. They started creating art as well for that reason. And found a spark of light after a long period of depression. I remember when artists did this for me, and I am moved by the fact that I am able to give this to others.

What’s the last thing you read?

I just finished the book, "The Creative Act" by Rick Rubin. One of my friends recommended it to me. I am not much of a reader, but after reading this I felt understood. Like someone finally validated my way of living and my view of the world. It gave me great confidence.

What do you want to read next?

I am planning on reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. I have watched many of his videos and talks. He helped me in one of my lowest points in my own life.

What’s an image or piece of art you can’t get out of your head?

There is one artwork called "Everything is Temporary" by Joe Pease. To me this artwork reflects moments in time, passing by. Like a mind that remembers a whole life in the now. I highly recommend checking out his work. Brilliant artist.

A product of any kind you’ve been appreciating lately?

I have been really happy with my new kitchen knives. They cut so smoothly. It makes cooking a lot easier.

The funniest thing you’ve seen lately?

There is an option in the Instagram private chat in which you hold a text message, add a sticker and you can draw things inside the chat, which can create hilarious collaborations between you and your friends drawing on top of the chats.

What do you do in your alone time?

I spend a lot of time in nature. I like going to music festivals and enjoy meditation and spiritual gatherings a lot.

What's a movie or TV series you tell everyone to watch?

"DUNE"

Any songs or albums on repeat?

I really love the album "Process" by Sampha from 2017. He is one of a kind, poetic. And every song feels like I wrote it and lived it.

What are you obsessing over lately? What's on your mind?

I am obsessed with greenhouses lately. Dreamy green environments with lots of flowers and modern wooden architecture. Preferably next to the sea. Really trying to manifest this idea.

Who do you really admire right now – anyone we should interview next?

I think you should definitely interview Samantha Cavet, a great photographer with a great mind.

What are you working on right now and why?

I am working on one of my biggest works yet. A giant castle as final expression of my story called NETRA. To show how you can rebuild your own temple in the world. ⚘
